sarongs_for_womenIf you haven’t yet visited the state of Hawaii, then you probably have thought about it.  Who wouldn’t want to take a long, laid back vacation to these beautiful isles, where the palm trees sway slower than the hips of a hula dancer?  Other towns may have their specialties, but one of the most frequently purchased items for tourist is not pineapples or flower leis – it is sarongs for women.  Most women don’t land in Oahu and go directly to the nearest sarong store, but they are still just as likely to buy one.  That’s because in the islands of Hawaii, even the most “buttoned up” woman lets her hair down.

Just like other popular trademarks of Hawaii, such as pineapples, Hawaiian shirts and luaus, Hawaiian sarongs for women are undeniably different.  They have inspired the imaginations of millions of visitors from around the globe.  What makes a Hawaiian sarong so desirable?  Just spend a day at the beach at a Hawaiian resort and you will soon see why.  These colorful wrap skirts can be worn in a number of different ways, from the most casual swimsuit cover-up to a dressy long silky skirt in the evening.  They are known for how they flatter a woman’s waistline because they are tied at an angle and worn low on the hips.

Even women with a few figure flaws to hide can still appreciate sarongs for women.  Rather than wearing bulky capris or sweatpants to the beach, a sexy sarong can cover a woman’s legs without making her look overdressed.  They are even lightweight enough to be worn as a shoulder wrap in the evening.  Some women love sarongs so much that they bring only songs and a few camis to wear on a trip to the islands.  Some women prefer brilliant Hawaiian patterns or animal prints in batik dyed fabrics, while others like the soft watercolor pastels of natural silk sarongs.

Sarongs for women first became popular when Americans noticed Polynesian women and women wearing them on the beach.  Men’s sarongs never really caught on stateside, but sarongs for women quickly became a fashionable beach wrap.  It wasn’t until quite recently that these colorful skirts started to be worn in dressier restaurants.
